The Last Addition

This is it, the final group!

We've got PINE CONES!  I just felt like Oprah there for a minute.  You know how she starts her sentences talking and then finishes big.  Too funny!  Just my excitement!  That's probably the only thing the two of us have in common other than wanting to help people.  I don't have her money or her sources but I do have some years behind me in Christmas decorating.  Probably the same number of years as she was on the Oprah show.

Anyways, I've carefully opened the bag

Look at these lovely pine cones.  For many years I would go around and collect all different sizes and shapes of pine cones.  I would use some as I found them and others I would spray paint.  It all depended on the colours I was working with or the look I was going for.  I'm making this one easy and for a dollar....who can go wrong?  You will be shocked at what I've spent on this tree and what it looks like when I'm done.  Where I previously worked, we would have 2' trees that had lights and decorations going from anywhere between $90. to as much as $300.  It depended on what the customer wanted and what was on the tree.  My hopes for this tree is to show you, it's not so much what you have.....it's what you do with what you have.

Notice that these pine cones come with hangers attached - score!  If you collect pine cones from outside you can create a hole in the bottom of the cone using whatever tool you have and stick either wood glue, crazy glue or any strong bonding glue inside the hole and insert a wire approximately
1 1/2 inches long.    One other option would be to wrap the wire around the lowest row of openings on the pine cone as possible.  You may even want to glue, with hot glue, the pine cone directly on the tree itself.    There are many options and all are dependent upon what you are achieving and the look you are going for.  I'll get into wire later on in this post and options for creating ornaments later on in the season.

I thought I would share the little extras I have for the tree so we can begin to decorate next post.

Do you remember the bottom of my awesome little tree?

The container is a green plastic 4" flower pot.  There are many options for making the container look amazing but mine is to use fabric.

This is a beautiful material with a bit of a shine and wait till you see how it looks!!

I will use a gold cord along with the fabric to finish off the bottom of the tree.  This cord just happens to be wired which I didn't know when I purchased it.  This will come in handy for many projects this holiday season.

This poinsettia is really quite pretty!  Its all glittery and 5" in diameter.  It's going to be gorgeous on my tree.

Ribbon!  Beautiful ribbon!  I love ribbon!  I picked up a couple of bolts as I use so much of it this time of year.  I always look for the yardage on the bolt.  When purchasing ribbon you should look for nothing less than 10 yards on a bolt.  Especially at this time of year.  These bolts have 50 yards of ribbon on them for only $7.96, and it's wired.  I love wired ribbon!!!  These bolts were purchased at Costco.  I can't even purchase this kind of ribbon, at this price - wholesale.  This is great stuff at a fabulous price!  This particular ribbon is 2" wide and will be perfect for my tree.  I will decide once I've finished decorating the tree which ribbon I'm going to use as each will give the tree a different look.

So pretty!

This is a 24 gauge wire.  The gauge is what is used to measure the thickness of the wire.  I find 16 - 24 gauge wire works best for me for both indoor and outdoor projects.  I purchased this spool for $0.87 at Michaels using a 40% off coupon.

Here is a standard wire gauge.  The higher the number, the thinner the wire.  Too thin of a wire used will not support the weight of an ornament.  Too thick of a wire, makes it difficult to work with.  You will find what works best for you, your project and what you're comfortable working with.

Other than the tree, here are all my goodies ready to go.
Can't wait to get started!

Wherever you are in your day, I hope you are enjoying it.
Wishing you many wonderful creations.
